Whilst we wait for the revolutionary windows with built-in transparent PV collectors to come to market one day, it is great to see some innovation that would prove useful to shade windows exposed to the sun and utilize the sunlight that the window is protected from.

German startup Solar Markise has launched photovoltaic awnings that combine sun protection with solar generation, offering 1.35 kW and 1.8 kW versions for residential and commercial self-consumption.

Solar Markise states in its datasheet that installation takes between two and four hours.

The awnings are registered as photovoltaic balcony power plants, which limits their grid feed-in capacity to 800 W. However, the primary purpose is to use the electricity generated directly within the household—or, in many cases, within commercial premises.
